At Wicklow Wolf, our mission is to create exceptional beers, brewed in a sustainable way. The recent installation of 120kw of solar panels is testament to this.
Since the foundation of Wicklow Wolf in 2014, sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do. It influences how we brew, package and advertise our beers. Since moving to our custom built state of the art brewery in Newtownmountkennedy, we have committed further to this cause. These commitments include sustainability initiatives such as installing heat energy recovery systems in our Brewhouse, to using only 100% renewable electricity.
From growing our own hops and keeping bees, to planting over 5000 native Irish trees on our hop farm, we have been doing all we can to reduce our footprint on the land around us.
Installation of Solar Panels at the brewery
In 2022 we at Wicklow Wolf have took our commitment to sustainability one step further. We commissioned the installation of over 120Kw of solar panels, covering the entirety of our 17,000 sq ft brewery roof. To find out more, follow the link below!
This massive commitment aims to further reduce our carbon footprint; producing 107,000kWh per year. These panels will result in a 30% reduction in electricity usage saving 30 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
With the help of Solar Panel providers, Astatine, this step on our sustainability journey is the latest commitment toward creating exceptional beers as sustainably as possible.
Delighted with this progress, Co-founder and Managing Director of Wicklow Wolf, Quincey Fennelly is determined to keep the brand at the forefront of sustainability;
“Since we moved into our new brewery here in Newtownmountkennedy in 2019, we have been commited to sourcing 100% renewable electricity. This step in the right direction is a great leap forward for us on this journey. Sustainability is at our core, so to be making a positive impact and setting an example of what can be achieved is very important to us here”.
Fellow founder and Head of Sustainability at Wicklow Wolf, Simon Lynch echoed these sentiments saying;
“The average fully grown tree can offset 21 kg of CO2 per year, so 30 tonnes of CO2 reduction is the equivalent of having 1,428 adult trees planted in terms of carbon offset. We have worked tirelessly to get to this point and while it hasn’t been without its challenges, the benefits to both the business and our community are clear.”
Committed to a more sustainable future. Paving the way for other craft breweries in Ireland.
